The first of its kind in Australia, the Vibration Lab incorporates a range of industry-standard non-contact surface vibration measurement systems that allow industry partners to engineer the performance and durability of their products while eliminating unnecessary complexity.
Equipment
- Laser Doppler Vibrometers (LDVs)
- Non-contact measurement of surface vibration velocity and displacement. Scanning LDV systems yield a complete vibration survey overlayed on the test sample image.
- Very high spatial resolution, very low noise floor and very high dynamic range
- Testing of micro- to macro-scale samples with 1D and 3D as well as differential and angular/torsional (dual beam) vibration
- Industry-standard dynamic data acquisition systems
- High dynamic range, built-in signal conditioning, coupled with powerful and comprehensive analysis software suites.
- First-in-country automatic modal impact hammer integrated with scanning LDV for rapid vibration survey
- High-speed video and time-resolved Digital Image Correlation for dynamic surface strain measurement
- Electrodynamic shaker and power amplifier systems for sample/test structure excitation
- Complementary ‘traditional’ transducers, modally tuned impact hammers, signal conditioning
- Anti-vibration floors, tables and benchtop systems for high-precision measurement
Capabilities
- Measure samples that are hot, light or rotating in contexts that necessitate high dynamic and/or frequency range, high spatial resolution and/or remote sensor operation.
- Samples can range in size:
- Microscopic
- Micro-electromechanical systems (MEMS)
- Naturally occurring/bio-inspired systems
- Photonics samples
- Macroscopic
- Vehicles
- Aircraft
- Bridges
- Other large infrastructure
- Overlay of vibrational behaviour on images of a sample to detect damage in a structure based on its dynamic characteristics. This information leads to enhanced engineered systems and structures that minimise disruption or premature failure.
- Finite Element Analysis can be combined with scanning LDV data to enable correlation of computational models, significantly reducing time and cost of manufacture.
