Taiwan Green Engineering: Active noise control for open windows

This project explores the feasibility of using active noise control to reduce the amount of sound pollution admitted through open windows. A prototype system will be developed and installed on site along a busy highway in order to test noise reduction and ventilation performance.

Challenge

For residents of cities, opening a window to let in fresh air can unfortunately also let in noise pollution. Taiwan Green Engineering Consultants are looking for a solution that reduces the level of noise that can enter an open window.

Solution

The UTS Tech Lab team are generating a new active noise control system to reduce noise transmitted across an open window. The project uses theoretical models to calculate low frequency sound transmission combined with experiments to optimise design. A prototype will be developed and tested in a building close to a busy road.
